Vivian Delgado, Yaqui, Ph.D.

Vivian Delgado is a writer, speaker, educator, and a certified NEA diversity trainer. As a member of the Pascua Yaqui tribe, Dr. Delgado and is known for identifying the issue of erroneous vital statistic records, which have served to misidentify and assimilate indigenous peoples. She initiated a movement called "Free The Spirit Day" to encourage the return of incorrect vital records to the Health and Environment Office.

She continues to teach in higher education as a professor and is currently licensed as a K-12 Linguistically Diverse Educator. Dr. Delgado received the Hazel F. Petrocco Award from the Colorado Education Association in February of 2006, for Women’s Leadership and Educational Advocacy

More recently, Dr. Delgado has begun working with individuals, students, land right councils and tribes on family histories and genealogies. DNA discussions are reflected upon using current research literature.

Dr. Delgado is available for lectures, conferences, readings, and trainings on diversity specifically for indigenous peoples. Hard topics among indigenous peoples such as racism, land based identities, and endangered indigenization are freely discussed utilizing the ancient method of philosophy.
